If somebody asked you how many different kinds of coffee were available around the world today and you said hundreds of thousands, your guess probably wouldn’t be far off!

Coffee - Cinnamon Latte

Doesn’t this Cinnamon Latte make your mouth water!

If you look at the shelves of your local supermarket, you’ll see what I’m talking about!  Goodness gracious!  There are literally dozens of brands and several choices of roasts for each brand.  There are all kinds of coffees including those that are made for drip coffee makers, those that are prepackaged and ready to be put into the coffee maker, and there are single serving coffee makers and I could go on and on.  I haven’t even scratched the surface yet.  There are so many different kinds of coffee that it is absolutely mind-boggling.  And get this…the coffees that you will find on the shelves of your local grocery store aren’t even the gourmet coffees.

Finding gourmet coffees is fairly easy.  All you have to do is visit a coffee specialty shop or surf the web.  There are so many choices that often times it is mind boggling.  If you don’t know what kind of gourmet coffee you are looking for, it is probably a good idea to have some good information about gourmet coffees before you buy.  Buying a “variety” package” that includes several different gourmet coffees might even be a good idea.  That way you can try out several different kinds to give you an idea of what kind you might like!

Different kinds of gourmet coffees have different tastes.  For example; they can have very high acidity, or taste earthy or they can be very smooth tasting.  Some people prefer high acidity coffee, while there are those that do not.  Is high acidity in your coffee a good thing or a bad thing?  I guess it really depends on the person drinking the coffee, their taste buds and whether they like it or not.  Some say that acidity causes stomach problems, while others say that acidity is what makes the coffee a cancer fighter of the first order and what gives it a unique taste.

Gourmet coffees that have an earthy taste are usually from the islands.  That earthy taste isn’t present in coffees from other regions.  Coffees that are smooth tasting are usually from Jamaica.  They are so smooth tasting that they make you want to cry.  Really, whether you like high acidity coffee, earthy tasting coffee or smooth tasting coffee depends on your own individual likes or dislikes.
