Do you remember that old movie, “Cheaper by the Dozen”? I’m sure you already know, but the point to the movie was that quantity cuts costs. Undoubtedly, there were other “points” made in the movie, but you get my drift here, right? The fact being, that you can usually save money if you buy in larger quantities.

There are many reasons why this is try. When you buy coffee in bulk there is a decrease in packaging costs, a decrease in transportation costs and a decrease in handling costs. Thanks to these reasons, larger quantities of almost anything can be sold for a smaller unit cost than smaller quantities of the same item. And coffee is one of those items that can be cheaper when it is bought in bulk.

To make buying coffee in bulk cost-effective, you must store it in an airtight container. If air gets to your coffee is won’t taste as good when it is brewed. Air degrades coffee, and it doesn’t matter if it is in a whole bean form or if it has already been ground. Smaller quantities of coffee are packaged in vacuum containers for the purpose of preventing the air from degrading the coffee. Therefore, larger quantities of coffee should also be protected from the air if you want to keep that robust flavor!

You shouldn’t store your coffee in the refrigerator either. One of the best ways of storing coffee after you buy it in bulk, it to use one of the airtight food sealing products that you can buy. You can buy many different brands of food sealing products. The best known brand is the “Seal-a-Meal,” but of course, it isn’t the only one out there on the market these days!

If you are going to buy your coffee in bulk, you should seal it in portion sizes. These portions should be sizes that are best fit for you. Seal your coffee using one of the airtight food sealing products and then store the packages in a cool, dark place. By doing this, you will prevent degradation of the flavor and the freshness of your coffee. After all, it’s just common sense…if you are going to buy your coffee in bulk to save money, you don’t want your coffee to lose its flavor and freshness before you can use it. If you don’t protect your coffee, then you really haven’t saved any money at all because if it doesn’t taste good, you will probably throw it out and go buy more. Hence, not saving any money at all!
