The cool thing about the Tassimo T20 Hot Beverage System is that you can make different types of coffee, esspresso, cappuccino, lattes, hot chocolate and teas with it.  This machine uses prepackaged “discs” and it is so easy to use!  All you have to do is fill its tank with water and place a Tassimo “T DISC” in the machine, close the lid and hit a button.  In no time at all, your beverage will be ready to drink.  It’s so simple!  Each T DISC makes one cup of whatever it is you are drinking.  Once the beverage is made, all you have to do is open the lid and throw the T DISC away.  That’s all the clean up you have to do at the time.  Sounds pretty easy, huh!

S'well Stainless Steel Water BottleSo…I’m a high school teacher and all (well, not all) of my students are sporting those S’well bottles!  I had no idea what they were, and really wasn’t interested in what they were.

Then my daughter started asking for one for her birthday.  Her birthday is in May so I really didn’t think much of it.  I figured when her birthday started getting closer, I would look into them.

And then, my daughter-in-law came over one evening and the next day I got a text at work asking me if she had left her S’well bottle at the house.  It got me to thinking, what is so great about these bottles?

My next encounter with S’well bottles was when I did a project with my Geometry classes and asked them to bring boxes, cylinders and spheres to class so that we could figure the volume.  One of my students brought a cylinder that was a container for a S’well bottle.  It was a pretty cool container!

Have you seen the old “Leave it to Beaver” reruns on late night television?  If you haven’t, let me tell you a little about that TV show.  The mother in the show is June, whose makeup is always perfect and she always wears high heels and never has a hair out of place.  Not only does she always look perfect but she is the perfect mom that always serves breakfast to her family at the breakfast table.  Ward, the father, wears a suit and tie each day and is always showered and shaved.  Their perfect day starts with them and their two boys gathered around the breakfast table for their morning meal.  June pours coffee from a coffee carafe into Ward’s coffee cup as they talk about their upcoming day.  It cracks me up because no family is perfect like theirs!

Leave It To Beaver
I have to think that most households operate pretty much like mine does.  Our daily routine is busy, hectic and insane!  How about yours?  Is it about the same?  Our mornings are done on the fly.  Most mornings, breakfast is a bowl of cold cereal or a breakfast bar.  It’s every man, woman, and child for themselves!  Coffee is “to go” as we all rush around trying to get to work and school on time.  My husband and I each have our own “to-go” spillproof mugs so that we can drink our morning coffee on the way to work.

Starbucks Coffee

If you’re like me, you probably hadn’t heard of Starbucks before the 1990’s but to my surprise, the company has actually been around longer than that!  In 1971, they opened their first store in Seattle.  And if you are wondering about the name, it is nautical in nature and was taken from Herman Melville’s novel Moby Dick.  Bet you would never have guessed that, huh?!?  And if you don’t know much about Moby Dick, it is a classic about the whaling industry in the 19th century.  Starbucks is actually an appropriate name, since the coffees that they served were imported from around the world.

Howard Shultz joined the Starbucks organization in 1982, and while he was on a trip to Italy, he discovered how popular the espresso bars were.  He decided that espresso bars would go over well in the stores, and well, the rest is history!

Starbucks CoffeeStarbucks spread out across the United States during the 1990’s and became quite popular.  Not only did they spread out across the United States, but they also spread out into the rest of the coffee-drinking world and soon became a publicly traded company.  Would you believe that there are more than 12,000 Starbucks stores in the United States?  While we are counting you can’t forget the stores that are in more than 30 countries around the world and they just keep popping up everywhere!

Buying Coffee in Bulk

Do you remember that old movie, “Cheaper by the Dozen”? I’m sure you already know, but the point to the movie was that quantity cuts costs. Undoubtedly, there were other “points” made in the movie, but you get my drift here, right? The fact being, that you can usually save money if you buy in larger quantities.

There are many reasons why this is try. When you buy coffee in bulk there is a decrease in packaging costs, a decrease in transportation costs and a decrease in handling costs. Thanks to these reasons, larger quantities of almost anything can be sold for a smaller unit cost than smaller quantities of the same item. And coffee is one of those items that can be cheaper when it is bought in bulk.
